Big question
What is a creator worth when you are buying content, rights and trust rather than followers?
The position
There is no market benchmark. Price against your own past deals, price the rights separately, and treat any follower band you are quoted as folklore until somebody shows you the sample.
Why it is live
A creator fee bundles talent, production, usage rights, amplification and exclusivity, and the market prices the bundle by follower count. The IAB put United States creator investment at 44 billion dollars for 2026, while its own January 2026 measurement work found objectives, definitions and methods still inconsistent across the category.
The case for a defensible price existing
Trade reportedRights are separately priced everywhere in practice, and two real transaction datasets exist.
The case against
UnknowableThe follower bands resolve to no disclosed dataset, the usage rights percentages in circulation run from fifteen per cent to over a hundred per month with no primary source, and both datasets are single marketplaces published by the company selling the marketplace.
Where the weight sits
Against a benchmark, decisively. The practice is real and the published prices are not evidence of anything.
What would change this
One disclosed dataset showing base fees and rights fees for the same deals, with a stated sample and collection method, from a party not selling into the answer.
